Although many tourists travel through the Humprecht hills, there is still plenty of bird cherries and nettles. Also preserved orchids flourish in this area.

Picturesque village Nepřívěc seems as if it stopped evolving sometimes in 1800. On its upper side there is a church of Saint Cross Foundation, behind which an octagonal belfry stands. You will feel as if you are in times of your great grand parents when you walk round old houses, barns, stables, cowsheds and mangers.

Sobotecko countryside

It is not long ago when the Sobotecko countryside was covered by meadows, balks, sandy roads, orchards and greenish fields. After communists started the process of nationalization gigantic farming areals were built, which remnants sully the countryside today. But better times are coming, for example – quails returned to those fields.

Semtin limetree

Semtin limetree – a symbol of Sobotecko countryside – stood not far away from Semtiny since 1730. In their works several wellknown czech poets and writers chanted it – e.g. Karel Čapek, Jaroslav Seifert and Jarmila Glazarová. But from the former large tree only a sad snag remained. Limetree fallen during the storm in may 2000. One year later a new tree was planted.

Majestic Kost Castle was built in 14th century. It is surrounded by forests and hills from all the sides so you will see it only when you come very close. Then it will impress you by its greatness. Plakánek walley that is located near river Klenice is one of the nicest places of Český ráj. You would not probably find a better place with more magnificent view on Kost Castle. Nature of Plakánek is by its soft grass and steep sandstone rocks wonderful. Pine-trees with strangely shaped trunks, whortleberry growth, erica and other plants flourish there. You may see the stony compartment Barušky in the walley, that was inhabited even during the First world war.

Pilský lake

You will come to contact with Pilský lake on halfway of your way through Plakánek. The walley is interesting both for botanists as for zoologists. Its clarity is proven by many animals that need clear water. You may even see a roe, a polecat, a brock or even a pine-martin. During the winter you may find bats here.

Roubenka well is very suitable for rest and relax of a tourist. The most beautiful is this place in the spring, when nice spring snowflakes grow. There is a strong stream near Roubenka, that supplied Sobotka with crystal clear water in the past.

Beautis of sobotecko countryside charmed even the prehistoric people. The oldest archeologic location in Český ráj – Poráň – is located in the rocks. Probably it was inhabitet even in the later mesolith, some 14th to 10th century BC. In that times there was approximately 100metres long corridor, today, there is only a small terrain wave.

Sandstone blocks in Plakánek were used as a building material for centuries. Only quarries with straight vertical walls with small signatures of the workers remained there. Sandstone was mined by hands and that was not an easy work to be done. All the stone was then processed and that´s why there are no leavings. There are two very interesting engravings on the rock near Pilský lake – first one is about Saint George from 1764 and the second one depicts four quarry tools – a rod, a scotch, a shovel and an axe.

Vesec is a picturesque small village with wooden houses, which front side is decorated by so-called „záklopy“ – a plank with the date when the house was built. Šimunek house was built in 1787, other houses are younger. Very interesting is also a sculpture of the Holy Trinity in Vesec, on which also Saint Starosta is depicted. This saintess is known for having her beard prayed out, just not to get married. This story was used in funny poem about Vesec from known czech poet Fráňa Šrámek.
